ABOUT

ABOUT CANNON & NELMS, P.C.

Cannon and Nelms, P.C. was founded by Anthony L. Cannon and Robert W. Nelms, who combined their decades of experience to form a law firm that would reflect their personalities and unique litigation tactics. For several decades, the firm has represented numerous insurance companies, insureds, individuals, corporations, and private golf clubs.

Cannon & Nelms, P.C.’s strong track record of success in numerous jury trials over the last twenty years is well known in the legal community. While it is true that most cases can and should be resolved without the need for a trial, Cannon & Nelms, P.C.’s widely respected reputation for success in jury trials also contributes to its ability to achieve favorable dispositions and settlements for its clients in matters that are concluded without a trial.  Cannon & Nelms, P.C.’s trial lawyers possess jury trial skills that can only be obtained through decades of successfully prosecuting and defending cases to a jury.  The firm is often called upon to assume the handling of complex, high exposure cases when a trial is imminent and settlement seems unlikely.

Cannon & Nelms, P.C. has consistently achieved outstanding results for its clients over the last two decades by trying their cases, settling their legal disputes, and providing them with sound legal advice and counseling.  Cannon & Nelms, P.C. is also very proud of the long standing personal and professional relationships that its partners have developed with its clients over the years.

IN MEMORIAM
OF
TONY CANNON

09/12/54 - 01/14/21

It is with a heavy heart the Cannon & Nelms family must report that one of the founding members of the firm, Anthony Lawrence Cannon passed away on January 14, 2021 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Orange, California.

Tony is survived by his wife, daughters, granddaughters, friends and colleagues too numerous to catalogue. Tony and I were partners for more than 23 years and there was no finer or more fearless friend or advocate for our clients. He was well known and respected for his encyclopedic knowledge of the law, his inspiring erudition, unimpeachable ethics and his full bore and legendary tenacity. Tony once gave a closing argument with appendicitis, refusing a continuance or mistrial while in excruciating discomfort. After delivering a vintage Cannon closing, he drove home to Orange County, was admitted to the hospital and his appendix was removed later that same evening. From courtroom to operating room in less than five hours. That was Tony.

The world has become a less bright, less enjoyable and less vibrant place to us now and we shall like it less.  However, knowing Tony as we do, he would have none of this and simply insist we get back to the business at hand of defending our clients with the same determination, professionalism and fearless advocacy that he helped create at Cannon & Nelms. Our firm will go forward and proudly retain the name of Tony Cannon in our letterhead.

 - Robert W. Nelms
